My road trip: Museum of Aveiro, Aveiro, Portugal

In my last road trip with my boyfriend we went to Aveiro and we had the amazing opportunity to discover the Museum of Aveiro. It’s located in the building of the Convent of Jesus. In this convent lived Saint Joana in the 15th century. This Portuguese princess wanted to become a noun, even though princesses in her time had to marry to maintain or create political relationships. She managed to convince her family to let her go to a convent and she chose to live in Aveiro.

The Convent opened in 1458 and was closed in the 19th century. Nowadays, it maintains the tomb of Saint Joana and a vast collection of religious art from the convent itself and also from other places in Aveiro. I liked the fact that the Museum tells the story of princess Joana and has some of her objects and at the same time it’s a trip in time to religious art. It has sculptures and paintings from different centuries.

It’s a good museum for those who are interested about religious art and about Joana’s life. I enjoyed my experience with this museum, specially because I admire Joana and it was very nice to walk in the same places as she did once.
